Executive Director - John Wilhelm MD MPH

Dr. John Wilhelm was appointed Infant Welfare’s new Executive Director in July, 2005.  As an active member of IWS's Board of Directors for more than 13 years, Dr. Wilhelm brings dedication and commitment to providing quality health care to the underserved.

Dr. Wilhelm served as Commissioner of the Chicago Department of Public Health from December 2000 to June 2005.  Since 1990 he was Bureau Chief for Public Health and Deputy Commissioner for Medical Affairs.  The previous 13 years he worked with Project HOPE in the international program development in Latin America and the Caribbean and as the Regional Director for the Americas.

After graduating from Loyola University Stritch School of Medicine in Chicago, he completed a residency in obstetrics and gynecology, a fellowship in endocrinology and a master’s degree in public health.

THE INFANT WELFARE STAFF

IWS’s quality services are provided by a staff of 92 which includes 4 full-time physicians, 1 full-time pediatric nurse practitioners, 2 full-time and 7 part-time dentists, 2 dental hygenienists, 4 social workers, as well as registered nurses and medical assistants.  Through contractual agreements, physicians and nurse midwives from Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center, Saints Mary and Elizabeth Hospital, and Rush-Presbyterian also provide services at Infant Welfare.
